Guide to Almeria Tourist Routes
From Almeria it is very easy to hit several other beautiful cities along the same road, the E-15, which runs along the coast. From here you can make short dashes into the interior for views of Almeria's stunning mountains and desert. Set out in your Almeria, Spain car hire and visit the cities around this beautiful costal town.
Ten Kilometers east of the industrial port of Adra is the small wetland reserve, Albuferas de Adra of 217 ha on the Mediterranean coast. Roquetas de Mar is about 8 km along the coast and is a very popular resort with tourists, offering some nice beaches. Southwest of Roquetas del Mar is a 15 km-long strip of protected coastline called Punta Entinas-Sabinar.

The coastline varies enormously in the degree and type of development. East of Almeria, on the way to Cabo de Gata you can enjoy a rugged coastline with secluded bays and remote beaches. Much of this area is comprised of Volcanic rocky mountains that plunge directly to the shore. Past Cabo de Gata is the coastal village of San José, with the small resorts of Las Negras and La Isleta del Moro.
Head west from Almeria, up and around the Sierra Nevada mountains in a cheap car rental from Almeria to the city of Granada. The stretch of shore between Granada Province and Almeria city is home to the Albuferas de Adra Natural Reserve, where you can find numerous aquatic birds. Granata city was first settled by native tribes in the prehistoric period, and was known as Ilbyr. Although not as well known as its neighbor, Costa del Sol, Granada's coastline has an inviting subtropical climate.
You can get to Granada by car hire Almeria, Spain via the A 92, going up and around the Sierra Nevada National park, or the A 44, if you are coming up from the coast.
